WHAT MAKES GULOY CLAN SPECIAL?

• Beautiful and Handsome Genes. Who will say their relatives don’t look good? No one because it will reflect on me too right? We received compliments from party vendors saying, “Everybody looks beautiful and handsome!” Aside from that, “You have a beautiful family and relatives!” We expressed words of gratitude in return. Compliments because we are all dress for the occasion or the exuding confidence. Thank God for good genes! Sometimes being Asian seems we never aged or dozens of skincare routine we used and shared through the years (admit it, we work on it!)  Aside from physical attributes, I can truly say that my relatives are beautiful inside and out, different in characteristic traits, but full of love and compassion.

• Large Venue. My mother has 10 siblings. I have 42 first cousins. I have 4 nephews and my cousins’ 77 children (approximately). I may be wrong, but if we have a party you have to reserve 100 seats for the clan and friends (maybe more). Some cousins are still in the Philippines, Dubai, London but the majority are here in the US. No family planning at all, but sure you will never be bored. You will be entertained just by sitting. Every occasion should have a venue who accommodates us. It should be planned prior to the event so we assigned people to organize Christmas party. There should be a large space and activities for teenagers and children.

• Home Health. We are Filipino-American, so we are mostly in the medical field. We are families of Doctors, Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, laboratory technologist, phlebotomist, and CNA/Caregivers. We can build home health if we want to. Every time I had a question about my client’s condition (Caregiver) I texted one of my cousins and got the answer.  I asked my cousin (therapist) how to do ROM (range of motion) to a client (condition). How cool is that? They are working in different hospitals here in IL, and other states. I’m very proud. Saving lives is one of the toughest jobs, but they do it on a daily basis. Bless their compassionate heart.

• Business. For those who launch their business like RCJM Filipino Store located in Touhy and Crawford, visit them. They sell delicious Filipino food and products. I just grab the opportunity to promote businesses of the families and yes we are business builders. Some of our cousins become business partners, and some become our leaders (network marketing). How cool is that when work doesn’t feel work?

• Full Support. I was hospitalized and visited by aunts and cousins. They all came to see me on different days, and I realized how blessed I am that I belong to this family. They don’t even fit in my room, and the other patient (shared room) was overwhelmed as well. We are there to support each other’s victories such as pregnancy and childbirth, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and milestones. We lift each other up through defeats such as illness, and deaths. We are there to share burden because the family will never leave you no matter what. We participate in church events/ walk for a cause in support of one another. I go on dates with my cousins just to catch up, unwind, watch a movie, eat out and relax.

• Talented Teenagers and Children. These people mean my siblings’ and cousins’ children. God gave them many talents. They can play musical instruments such as guitar, violin, piano and etc. They can sing, dance and perform. My cousin’s children in other states, the Philippines, Dubai, and London are very talented as well.  They play sports like swimming, soccer and etc. They are not just musically inclined but mentally gifted as well.

We are a tight close-knit family. I have seen and learned unconditional love through my parents and aunts/uncles. I respect and value their hard work of bringing us all here and strive to make the family intact at all costs. We are not perfect and agreements are inevitable in big families. We forgive, forget and move on. The Guloy Clan is special not because of material things, but the love and unwavering support for each other.
